COURSE DESCRIPTION AND INTENDED AUDIENCE
'The Basics' is a two day course covering electrophysiologic principles, review of basic arrhythmias, 12 Lead EKG principles, antiarrhythmic drugs and drugs used for sedation, indications for electrophysiologic testing, the basic steps of an EP study, and syncope. The intended audience for this course is staff who have worked in electrophysiology labs or industry for less than one year or those who want a solid review or foundation in basic electrophysiology. This course truly provides an opportunity for the participant to resolve uncertainties and unanswered questions. The syllabus is designed to be an excellent tool for self-study.

Fellows in training and Cardiologists are welcome.


CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to...

1. Recall fundamentals of basic electrophysiology, including cellular physiology, anatomy and physiology of the conduction system and mechanisms of arrhythmias.

2. Calculate axis and identify bundle branch block on a 12-lead EKG.

3. State the types of EP studies and the objectives of each.

4. Be familiar with the indications for EP testing and the common clinical scenarios meeting these criteria.

5. Discuss the various responses to Head-up Tilt Testing.

6. State a systemic approach to interpreting electrograms.

       10:15am.. Overview of Arrhythmias and Current Treatments; Indications for Pacing, Intro to 12 Lead EKG

       12:45pm.. Axis Deviation, Bundle Branch Blocks and Hemiblocks; Narrow QRS Tachycardias

         2:45pm.. Wide QRS Tachycardias, Antiarrhythmic Drugs, Sedation/Analgesia

ACCREDITATION
A certificate of attendance will be given upon completion of course requirements, enabling you to register your credit with the appropriate licensing boards or associations. You may apply for other accreditations using the procedure established by the specific organization. Additional brochures and evaluation forms can be provided upon request. Full attendance is required. No partial contact hours will be issued for partial attendance.

FACULTY
Kriegh P. Moulton, M.D. is Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Prairie Heart Institute; Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine; and a senior member of the firm Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants, Ltd., Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Moulton has presented this course to electrophysiology staff across the U.S. He makes electrophysiology come alive with an exciting and understandable presentation.

Linda Moulton, R.N., M.S. is a researcher, educator, consultant, medical writer, and Owner of Critical Care ED and C.C.E. Consulting. Her other professional roles have included manager, and clinical specialist. She has taught across the U.S., for NASPE and for industry. She manages the "orderanddisorder.com" website.

The conference will be held at the Marriott Houston West Loop by the Galleria, 1750 West Loop South, Houston, TX 77027. Phone: 713-960-0111. Fax: 713-624-1560. Critical Care ED has reserved rooms for participants and their guests at special rates in effect, based on availability from January 29 to January 30, with January 31 checkout: $119.00. All guests shall make reservations directly with the hotel at 1-800-228-9290. Identify yourself as being part of CCE Consulting to ensure the special rate. Reservations must include first night’s deposit. Major credit cards are acceptable to establish pre-payment. Be sure to request written confirmation of your registration.

Release Date: 
The hotel room release date is January 8, 2009. To take advantage of the reduced rates, you must make your reservations before this date. The reduced rates may not be available after January 8. Call the hotel for availability after this date.
